Men’s Dorm Summer Housing Guidelines
General Guidelines for Summer Men’s Dorm Campus Housing.
Pricing
- $350 per month (double occupancy)
- $400 per month (single occupancy)
Basic Information
For 2020, this summer dorm option is only available to male students/residents.
You may rent for the full four summer months or just a few months.
Non-SBC students may also apply for this summer dorm housing. Non-SBC students must plan to vacate the dorm by August 31.
Please note: Two or three weekends a summer, the dorm will also be rented to family gathering groups. During those weekends we ask that you share the lounge/kitchenette/bathroom spaces with these rental guests and generally give these groups appropriate space.
Agreement and Process
- The rental agreement is between Steinbach Bible College (SBC) and the resident directly.
- The SBC Director of Rentals is responsible to approve applications.
- Once confirmation of rental is given, please pay for 1 month’s rent plus $300 to be held as a damage deposit.
Rent and Damage Deposit
- Rental fees include an entire month and are not prorated. If a tenant moves in after the beginning of the month or before the end of the month, full rent is due and payable.
- For SBC students, rent will be invoiced to the student’s account.
- Rent is due on the first day of each month and is payable in full unless special arrangements have been made with the Director of Finance.
- The tenant is responsible for all damages that occur above the costs that can be covered by the damage deposit. Damages to the lounge, hallways and bathrooms will be split between summer tenants if no one individual takes responsibility for the damage.

- Air Conditioning*
*A window style A/C unit will be installed in the main lounge/kitchen area. This keeps the dorm cooler but individuals may still wish to install their own A/C units in their dorm rooms**.
**If you wish to install a window A/C unit, we will help you install it with appropriate bracing for a $50 service fee. For safety reasons and to protect the building, this fee/maintenance help is mandatory. The cost of purchasing the A/C unit is up to each tenant for their room.
Residence Rules
It is understood that the tenant is responsible for all activities /actions that occur in the dorm.
Pets are not allowed on SBC property or inside any residences.
Alcohol, tobacco and vaping are not permitted on the SBC campus.
In light of our commitment to the safety of our residents, no weapons are to be brought on campus at any time.
All residents are expected to abstain from pornography, illegal or recreational drug use, and sexual promiscuity.
To honour ourselves and each other, activities of a sexual nature involving inappropriate touching, gestures, or nudity are strictly prohibited in the residences.
The on campus quiet time is 11 pm. This includes activity both in and around the residences, so that those in the residences and others living on campus can have sufficient rest.
Instruments must not be played in a way that disturbs others.
Overnight guests must abide by the policies of the residence. The limit for an overnight guest is three successive nights.
Hours for female visitors are 12noon to 11pm in the dorm lounge exclusively.
All residents are required to live under the guidelines of the tenancy agreement & residence policies. Failure to respect the room and building will result in a reduced return of damage deposit.
SBC Residence Services & Policies
Mail Service
All resident mail will be deposited in the resident's mailboxes, located at Scheufelds Cafe in the main SBC building. Outgoing mail should have the return address completed before dropping off at reception. The return address is as follows: Your Name, 50 PTH 12 N, Steinbach, MB, R5G 1T4.
Keys
For each key that is lost or not returned, $10 will be charged to the resident. $25 will be charged for a lost access card. Please report all lost or stolen cards or keys immediately to the Director of Maintenance. These charges will not be refunded if keys/cards are found.
Rooms
All rooms are equipped with beds, desks, and drawer space. Limited closet space is available and Tenants should plan accordingly.
Screens are to remain in the windows at all times.
It is expected that upon moving out of the residence the Tenant will clean the room and assist with cleaning the general residence area.
Decorating
Residents are encouraged to make their rooms “homey” by hanging posters on the wall (using staples or Fun-Tac ONLY). Residents are welcome to bring lamps. (However, halogen bulbs are not permitted). Nothing is to be attached to the ceiling. If residents need to hang something that requires more support, contact the Maintenance Director.
Note: Campus Services reserves the right to remove any pornographic material, posters, computer programs or offensive items that do not promote spiritual growth.
Bicycles
Bicycles and weight-lifting equipment are not to be brought into the dorm. A storage shed for bikes is available during the school year to provide a secure shelter.
Electrical appliances
Electrical appliances such as toasters, kettles, coffee makers, and corn poppers may be used only in the lounge. Hot plates or other food warming or heating devices are not to be brought into the residences.
Lounges in both residences are available for light cooking. When using these facilities, please clean up when finished. Portable heaters are not allowed in the residence, except by permission. Only indoor extension cords are permitted indoors.
Candles, kerosene lamps, incense, or any other fire devices are NOT to be used in the residences.
Laundry
Laundry facilities are located in the residences for Tenant use. Only HE detergent is to be used in washing machines. Machines are not to be used after 11:00 p.m.
Insurance
Each Tenant is responsible for any contents insurance. This insurance can be purchased through any insurance agency for a nominal fee. Steinbach Bible College and Steinbach Christian Schools Inc. do not provide coverage for any loss of Tenant’s personal belongings due to theft, fire, water or negligence. Likewise, Steinbach Bible College and Steinbach Christian Schools Inc. are not responsible for any loss due to any of the above.
Repairs and Maintenance
It is agreed that the LANDLORD will take care of any maintenance items inside and out of the RENTAL UNIT. The Tenant is responsible to contact the LANDLORD as soon as possible on any items that need attention. The Tenant does not have the permission to repair anything in the RENTAL UNIT. Should the Tenant repair anything and it is determined that it resulted in a greater cost to the LANDLORD, the Tenant agrees to pay all additional assessed costs.
The tenant is not allowed to make any renovations or improvements to the unit without the written permission of the Director of Rentals and SCS Director of Maintenance.
Lifestyle
It is agreed that the Tenant, or any guests will not bring or use alcohol, any illegal substances, or smoke anywhere on the campus. The Tenant will not act in an unbecoming fashion on campus or in their unit.
Protocol for Staff and Maintenance Entering Dorms
SCS Maintenance Staff will enter to clean the dorm lounge, bathrooms and main hallways on a weekly basis.
For regular maintenance or for showing the dorm unit to prospective students – The Maintenance Director/Staff will provide escort.
For water/plumbing related emergencies (i.e. water leak, or shorting plug) – In order of preference: notify and receive escort by 1) Maintenance Director; or 2) same gender resident; or 3) any same gender staff member.
- For EMS emergencies – no notice or escort is needed.
- For MTS (and other such service calls) – They are to be escorted in, and call in advance so that the Maintenance Director can follow protocol and make the proper arrangements for entering dorms.
Access: The Landlord has full right to access the premises:
- in case of an emergency OR
- for the completion of repairs or renovations as requested by the Tenant OR
- after giving twenty-four hours notice to the Tenant for any other reason.
Fire Procedures
Fire hazards should be reported or eliminated.
In case of fire or alarm in the residences:
- Sound the alarm.
- Clear the building and assemble in the soccer field.
- Inform the Maintenance Director or the Rentals Director.
- The building may not be re-entered until the all-clear signal is given by the Director of Maintenance.
